About Me – Mac Locker

I don’t particularly like to talk about myself, but appreciate it’s always nice to know who you’re reading about. I find reading blogs and websites quite personal and often enjoy finding out more about the reader and who’s ‘behind the text’ so to speak.

So I’m Mac. I’m a web designer, developer and graphic designer who recently retired. I have an unhealthy passion for my work despite no longer being employed to do it. Having built a career on web design and development, it’s always going to be a part of me.

I started my career in 1997 working for a firm in the UK called IBM. As a software developer, I was tasked on working with some really prehistoric tech nowadays. MSDos was the norm and there wasn’t really such a commonplace role as a graphic designer. I would often be sitting in-front of Windows 3.1, struggling to do even the most basic of tasks!

After several years, I gained a lot of experience and decided that my real passion was in UI and UX, so I transitioned to the marketing department. Here I learn’t a lot about working in a creative environment and was often involved in projects product launches. This included building mini websites and designing the user flow for visitors.

After about 10 years, I took the plunge and went freelance. Using popular tools like www.freelancer.com and www.upwork.com (formerly uDesk), I would pitch for some pretty major contracts and it’s here where I developed my passion for web design.
